The Carbon Hill School Museum is home to the Carbon Hill Historical Society. This original 1893 schoolhouse displays hundreds of original artifacts depicting immigrant turn-of-the-century life of families, businesses, and coal mines. On display are original items in the Carbon Hill, Illinois history such as jailhouse iron doors, coal mining tools, old store supplies, Illinois coal reports and maps, and plenty of Carbon Hill family history. A significant portion of the museum represents the history of the coal fields of Grundy County and Will County, Illinois. The Carbon Hill Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing history information and historical programs for to enjoy.
